Latha Parthiban: Fuzzy C-Means Clustering for Clinical Knowledge Discovery in Databases

Fuzzy C-Means Clustering for Clinical Knowledge Discovery in Databases

Description

Data mining is the process of extracting interesting non-trivial, implicit, previously unknown and potentially useful information or patterns from data in large databases. Clustering is a data mining technique used for pattern evaluation and is the classification of similar objects into different groups, or more precisely, the partitioning of data set into subsets. The first part of the work deals with implementation of FCM clustering technique to help doctors in finding new patterns during diagnosis. FCM method is more suitable than crisp ones in clustering medical data, where imprecise conditions are the rules and FCM gives clear idea about the severity of the syndrome in a patient. Application of FCM on medical data causes class membership to become a relative one and objects can belong to many classes at same time with different degrees, which is an important feature to increase the sensitivity. A comprehensive comparative analysis also proves that FCM performs better than K-mean algorithm. The second part of the work deals with heterogeneous data integration with SchemaSQL which provides effective aggregation capabilities and also handles schematic/structural heterogeneity.

The Structure of Personality : Modeling

Description

""The Structure of Personality" identifies the processes that produce personality, and presents strategies to reprogramme it. Coaching the reader in a number of effective and specially adapted NLP techniques, it covers a wide range of tools including The RESOLVE model and the Personal Strengths model, making it a crucial reference for counsellors, therapists and NLP practitioners. A bold and courageous step with exciting possibilities. The authors have dismantled the diagnostic nomenclature offering new perspectives for treatment while postulating that personality is not static; not a thing, but an ongoing, evolving process and, if dysfunctional, can be restructured. The book should prove to be a milestone in our pursuit for sanity". (Rie Anderson MA, LMHC, NBCDCH, Clinical Psychotherapist). ""The Structure of Personality" is a major step in creating a cognitive map using Neuro-Semantics and NLP to understand the relationship between a person's thinking and his or her personality development". (Jim Walsh MA, Licensed Mental Health Counsellor, Certified School Psychologist, Neuro-Semantics and Neuro-Linguistics Trainer).

Prof. Harold Bloom: The Anatomy of Influence: Literature as a Way of Life

The Anatomy of Influence: Literature as a Way of Life

Description

'Literary criticism, as I attempt to practice it', writes Harold Bloom in "The Anatomy of Influence", 'is in the first place literary, that is to say, personal and passionate'. For more than half a century, Bloom has shared his profound knowledge of the written word with students and readers. In this, his most comprehensive and accessible study of influence, Bloom leads us through the labyrinthine paths which link the writers and critics who have informed and inspired him for so many years. The result is "a critical self-portrait", a sustained meditation on a life lived with and through the great works of the Western canon: Why has influence been my lifelong obsessive concern? Why have certain writers found me and not others? What is the end of a literary life? Featuring extended analyses of Bloom's most cherished poets - Shakespeare, Whitman, and Crane - as well as inspired appreciations of Emerson, Tennyson, Browning, Yeats, Ashbery, and others, "The Anatomy of Influence" adapts Bloom's classic work "The Anxiety of Influence" to show us what great literature is, how it comes to be, and why it matters. Each chapter maps startling new literary connections that suddenly seem inevitable once Bloom has shown us how to listen and to read. A fierce and intimate appreciation of the art of literature on a scale that the author will not again attempt, "The Anatomy of Influence" follows the sublime works it studies, inspiring the reader with a sense of something ever more about to be.

Awkward Family Holiday Photos

From the authors of the "New York Times "bestsellers "Awkward Family Photos "and "Awkward Family Pet Photos "comes a celebration of those special times throughout the year when our families embarrass us the most . . . the holidays. Holidays. They're those momentous occasions when we gather with family to eat, drink, celebrate, and, of course, pose for photographs. Whether your family loves Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day, Easter, July Fourth, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, or Hanukkah, this book pays homage to all of the holidays' most uncomfortable moments.

I'm Travelling Alone

Description

When the body of a young girl is found hanging from a tree, the only clue the police have is an airline tag around her neck. It reads 'I'm travelling alone'. In response, police investigator Holger Munch is immediately charged with assembling a special homicide unit. But to complete the team, he must track down his former partner, Mia Kruger - a brilliant but troubled detective - who has retreated to a solitary island with plans to kill herself. Reviewing the file, Mia finds something new - a thin line carved into the dead girl's fingernail: the number 1. She knows that this is only the beginning. To save other children from the same fate, she must find a way to cast aside her own demons and stop this murderer from becoming a serial killer.

Michael J. Shea Ph. D.: Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy: v. 4

Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy: v. 4

Description

Interest in craniosacral therapy has exploded in recent years--not surprising given its gentle, effective approach to working on the spine and the skull and its cranial sutures, diaphragms, and fascias. The treatment focuses on the 92 percent of the human body composed of living water, rather than the eight percent that most therapies address. Building on the previous books, which explored underlying principles, differentiating the components of the practice, and combining theory and practice, this volume illustrates the evolution of craniosacral therapy over the past 30 years. More than 50 hand positions are presented in detailed photographs--many with multiple views--each of which can be used immediately and effectively. Additional chapters focus on the correct use and boundaries of the therapist's hands, a precise sequence to follow when practicing biodynamically, and working with the therapist's perception of the therapeutic process. Written for practitioners in the fields of massage, mental health, complementary and alternative medicine, and chiropractics, this book, like the others in the series, is equally useful read on its own or in sequence.

This prestige hardcover collects the next two arcs of the critically acclaimed and New York Times bestselling series; In "Conclave," the 16 Families have gathered together in the exclusive luxury confines of Triton One to resolve the emerging conflict between Carlyle and Hock, and they've brought their Lazari with them. Princess at Sea

Description

Assigned to chaperone Queen Contessa and her husband on their honeymoon, Tess takes on pirates who abduct the royal couple for ransom-unaware that Tess's magic is the real treasure in their midst.

Island of the World is the story of a child born in 1933 into the turbulent world of the Balkans and tracing his life into the third millennium. The central character is Josip Lasta, the son of an impoverished school teacher in a remote village high in the mountains of the Bosnian interior. As the novel begins, World War II is underway and the entire region of Yugoslavia is torn by conflicting factions: German and Italian occupying armies, and the rebel forces that resist them-the fascist Ustashe, Serb nationalist Chetniks, and Communist Partisans. As events gather momentum, hell breaks loose, and the young and the innocent are caught in the path of great evils. Their only remaining strength is their religious faith and their families. For more than a century, the confused and highly inflammatory history of former Theories of Sexual Offending download ebook Yugoslavia has been the subject of numerous books, many of them rife with revisionist history and propaganda. The peoples of the Balkans live on the border of three worlds: the Islamic, the orthodox Slavic East, and Catholic Europe, and as such they stand in the path of major world conflicts that are not only geo-political but fundamentally spiritual. This novel cuts to the core question: how does a person retain his identity, indeed his humanity, in absolutely dehumanizing situations? In the life of the central character, the author demonstrates that this will demand suffering and sacrifice, heroism and even holiness. When he is twelve years old, his entire world is destroyed, and so begins a lifelong Odyssey to find again the faith which the blows of evil have shattered. The plot takes the reader through Josip's youth, his young manhood, life under the Communist regime, hope and loss and unexpected blessings, the growth of his creative powers as a poet, and the ultimate test of his life. Ultimately this novel is about the crucifixion of a soul-and resurrection.

Theories of Sexual Offending

Description

This comprehensive text provides an up-to-date review and critique of current theorising about sexual offending. It presents the key ideas underpinning each theory in a clear and accessible manner. Theories are rigorously tested and evaluated, and their merits are examined from both a research and a clinical point of view. Importantly, the emphasis is on providing clear links between theory and practice, and the clinical implications of the different theories and perspectives are explicitly discussed. In addition, a number of new ideas about the aetiology of sexual offending are presented. Theories of Sexual Offending is one of the few books to draw all of the disparate strands of theorising together, and is the only one to clearly link theory to practice. It will be a valuable resource for any professional working with sexual offenders, such as clinical and forensic psychologists, psychiatrists, probation officers and social workers. It will also be of interest to students of forensic and clinical psychology.

Pope's Odyssey. In that pleasant district of merry England which is watered by the river Don, there extended in ancient times a large forest, covering the greater part of the beautiful hills and valleys which lie between Sheffield and the pleasant town of Doncas ter. The remains of this extensive wood are still to be seen at the noble seats of Wentworth, of Warnclifie Park, and around Rotherham. Here haunted of yore the fabulous Dragon of Wantley; here were fought many of the most desperate bat ties during the Civil Wars of the Roses; and here also flourished in ancient times those bands of gallant outlaws, whoa deeds have been rendered so popular in English song. Such being our chief scene, the date of our story refers to a period towards the end of the reign of Richard I., when his return from his long captivity had become an event rather wished than hoped for by his despairing subjects, who were in the meantime subjected to every species of subordinate oppression. The nobles, whose power had become exorbitant during the reign of Stephen, and whom the prudence of Henry the Second had scarce reduced into some degree of subjection to the crown, had now resumed their ancient license in its ut most extent; despising the feeble interference of the English Council of State, fortifying their castles, increasing the nnmbei f their dependants, reducing all around them to a state oS2 vassalage, and striving by every means in their power, to pi act themselves each at the head of such forces as might enable him to make a figure in the national convulsions which appeared to...

Robert J. Morgan: 100 Bible Verses Everyone Should Know by Heart

100 Bible Verses Everyone Should Know by Heart

Description

Change your life from Genesis 1:1 to Revelation 22:20. With the immediacy of Internet searches and ease of handheld devices, the custom of memorizing Scripture may not seem necessary, but best-selling author Robert J. Morgan makes an airtight case for reviving this rewarding practice in "100 Bible Verses Everyone Should Know by Heart." "It's vital for mental and emotional health and for spiritual well-being," he writes. "It's as powerful as acorns dropping into furrows in the forest. It allows God's words to sink into your brain and permeate your subconscious thoughts. It saturates the personality, satiates the soul, and stockpiles the mind. It changes the atmosphere of every family and alters the weather forecast of every day." In a series of brief opening chapters, Morgan prepares us for this new old way of thinking and then presents his experienced list of 100 crucial verses, providing sidebar notes, quotes, and memorization tips for each. Extra pages are included to add your favorite verses, extending this life-changing exercise and memorization habit. "Rob Morgan never disappoints me. His books do what a good book should do: make you think about life from a new and fresh perspective." David Jeremiah, "New York Times" best-selling author

David Foster Wallace,Tom Bissell: Infinite Jest

Infinite Jest

Description

This deluxe paperback edition--featuring flaps, new cover art, and a new foreword by Tom Bissell--celebrates the 20th anniversary of the original publication of "Infinite Jest." A gargantuan, mind-altering comedy about the Pursuit of Happiness in America set in an addicts' halfway house and a tennis academy, and featuring the most endearingly screwed-up family to come along in recent fiction, "Infinite Jest" explores essential questions about what entertainment is and why it has come to so dominate our lives; about how our desire for entertainment affects our need to connect with other people; and about what the pleasures we choose say about who we are. Equal parts philosophical quest and screwball comedy, Infinite Jest bends every rule of fiction without sacrificing for a moment its own entertainment value. It is an exuberant, uniquely American exploration of the passions that make us human - and one of those rare books that renew the idea of what a novel can do.
